Roads & Construction Notifications

Revised April 12, 2024 - For Week of April 15, 2024:

AREA ROADWAYS CAMPUS IMPACTS:

Zoo Interchange North Leg

  • Long-term full closure of Swan Blvd EB/WB, between Discovery and Underwood Creek Pkwys, expected to begin April 22 for 4 weeks. (Pavement & sidewalk work).
  • ​​​Overnight I-41 full freewy and ramp closures expected to begin the week of April 22nd (pavement marking work).


Swan Blvd Closure - Mid-April through end of May

WisDOT will be replacing portions of the bridge approach on Swan Blvd.
​Additional traffic congestion is expected on Watertown Plank Rd.

CAMPUS CONSTRUCTION NEWS:

Reminder to follow safety rules:  

  • Cross only at crosswalks using the pedestrian signals
  • Do NOT cross against the signal
  • Push the pedestrian signal button, wait for the walk signal, observe that traffic has come to a complete stop, and then cross the street
  • Continue to look in both directions as you cross the street

  West Side Development:

       West Side Development utility work continues on campus.  Impacts to traffic will be felt for the remainder of 2024.     

  92nd Street

      Lane Reductions Between W. Connell and Wisconsin Ave.
      Started April 1 (ongoing) - ALTERNATE ROUTE: Use 87th Street  (click here for map)
  • Reduction to one lane in each direction
  • This traffic pattern is in place for the foreseeable future to accommodate construction on Froedtert's parking structure, the extension of W. Doyne Ave., and construction on Froedtert's new patient tower (which begins June 1).
  • The main Froedtert Hospital entrance and Door 6 will remain open at this time.
  • Non-emergency and non-critical patient transports should continue to use Door 6 off N. 92nd St.  Emergency and critical patients should continue to be transported to the Froedtert Hospital ambulance bay.
  • Watch for posted guidance signs and use 87th Street as an alternate route.

    • Tree Replacement Policy: 
      • Trees less than 10" in diameter: Replace two trees for every tree removed (2:1)   
      • Trees 10" to 30" in diameter: Replace three trees for every tree removed (3:1)
      • Trees greater than 30" in diameter: Replace four trees for every tree removed (4:1)

          87th Street - Cancer Research Building (CRB) Construction
          Through 2024

              Activities related to the construction of the Cancer Research Building continue.

              Access to MCW private roads noted below:

  • North access to the MCW front circle is closed to vehicles for construction of the Cancer Research Building. This closure is likely to occur through 2024.
  • All vehicle traffic looking to enter the MCW Front Circle should use Connell Ave.
  • Sidewalks that cross the project site are closed. The only access through the site for pedestrians is emergency egress from occupied facilities via a signed and approved route.
  • All pedestrians east of the Cancer Research Building site should use the 87th Street sidewalks.
  • Affected bike parking is being relocated throughout the Milwaukee Campus through 2024.
